Privacy Policy – AskNest: AI Chatbot & FAQ Bot

AskNest: AI Chatbot & FAQ Bot (“AskNest”, “the App”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is developed and operated by Ecommerce Storez. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects when installed on a Shopify store, how that information is used, and the choices available to merchants and their customers.
By installing or using AskNest, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
When you install AskNest on your Shopify store, we access certain data through Shopify’s APIs. We only collect the data needed to operate the App.
a) Store & Merchant Information
- Store name, store URL (myshopify.com domain), and store email address
- Merchant (account owner) name and contact information, used for account management and support communication
b) Store Content (used to train your AI assistant)
- Product information: titles, descriptions, prices, variants, images, and availability
- Store policies: shipping, returns/refunds, and other policy pages
- Online store pages and FAQ content you choose to sync
This content is used solely to generate accurate AI answers for your store’s shoppers.
c) Customer & Visitor Information
When a shopper interacts with the AskNest chat widget on your storefront, we may process:
- The questions and messages the shopper types into the widget
- Technical data such as IP address, browser type, operating system, and approximate location (used for language detection, abuse prevention, and service reliability)
- If provided by the shopper or required for a support answer: name and email address
- Limited order information (up to the last 60 days) when needed to answer order-related questions, where the merchant has enabled this feature
We do not collect or store payment card numbers, passwords, or other sensitive financial credentials.
2. How We Use the Information
We use the collected information to:
- Provide instant AI-generated answers to shopper questions on your storefront
- Train and keep your store’s AI assistant up to date with your products, policies, and FAQs
- Show you analytics about what shoppers are asking, inside your App dashboard
- Provide customer support to you as a merchant
- Monitor usage against your plan limits (e.g., monthly AI replies)
- Maintain the security, reliability, and performance of the App
- Comply with legal obligations and Shopify’s requirements
We do not sell, rent, or trade merchant data or shopper data to third parties. We do not use your store’s data to advertise to your customers.
3. AI Processing & Third-Party Services
AskNest uses third-party service providers to operate:
- OpenAI – Shopper questions and relevant store content (such as product details or policy text) are sent to OpenAI’s API to generate AI responses. This data is processed in accordance with OpenAI’s API data usage policies. We do not permit our AI providers to use your data to train their general-purpose models.
- Shopify – The App operates on Shopify’s platform and accesses data via Shopify’s APIs, subject to Shopify’s API Terms and Privacy Policy.
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers – Used to securely host the App, its database, and related services.
Each provider only receives the data necessary to perform its function.
4. Data Retention
- Store content (products, policies, FAQs): Retained while the App is installed, and refreshed as your store changes.
- Chat conversations and analytics: Retained while the App is installed so you can review shopper questions in your dashboard.
- Order data: Accessed on a rolling basis limited to the most recent 60 days and not retained longer than needed to answer the related question.
- After uninstall: When you uninstall AskNest, we delete your store’s data from our systems within 30 days, except where a longer retention period is required by law.
5. GDPR, CCPA & Shopify Mandatory Data Requests
We comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks:
- customers/data_request – If a customer requests their data, we provide the merchant with the data we hold about that customer.
- customers/redact – If a customer requests deletion, we delete that customer’s personal data from our systems.
- shop/redact – When a store uninstalls the App, we delete the store’s data as described in Section 4.
Depending on your location, you (and your customers) may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data we process, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s Privacy
AskNest is a business tool intended for use by merchants. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for such transfers.
9. Merchant Responsibilities
As the merchant, you are the data controller for your customers’ personal data. You are responsible for ensuring your own store’s privacy policy discloses the use of third-party tools such as AskNest, and for obtaining any consents required in your jurisdiction (for example, cookie or chat-widget notices where applicable).
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
